Collection: Jersey
Jersey’s mild Channel Islands climate and horticultural history support greenhouse and field vegetable production, including peppers. Hot chilies are grown mainly by small farms and hobbyists, with standard varieties such as jalapeño, cayenne, Hungarian wax, bird’s eye, and Scotch bonnet mirroring UK trends.
There is no distinct Jersey chili cultivar documented. In the kitchen, chilies spice up seafood, stews, and café fare, appearing in crab and lobster dishes, curries, chili con carne, and Asian-influenced stir-fries. Jalapeños and cayennes are used fresh or pickled as burger and sandwich toppings, while Scotch bonnet appears in Caribbean and African dishes served to a diverse population.
Some small producers create chili jams and sauces featuring Jersey-grown jalapeños and habaneros, but most processed chili products are imported from the UK and EU.
