Collection: Bouvet Island

Bouvet Island is an uninhabited, sub-Antarctic Norwegian territory with no permanent residents, agriculture, or culinary tradition, so no hot pepper production or cuisine exists there. The harsh climate—glaciated, cold, and extremely remote—precludes field or greenhouse cultivation of Capsicum species.

Any peppers brought to scientific or military vessels in the surrounding waters would be imported, typically generic bell peppers and common chilies used in shipboard cooking. Consequently, there are no native or locally developed hot pepper varieties, no pepper industry, and no associated dishes specific to Bouvet Island.

Any description of “Bouvet Island hot peppers” refers only to hypothetical or transient use of standard international varieties by visiting crews.
