Collection: Europe

Europe remains a major importer and consumer of hot peppers, meeting over 60% of its chili demand through imports from Morocco, Türkiye, India, Peru, and sub-Saharan Africa. Spain dominates EU production, supplying 50% of the bloc’s output; Germany and France are the top importers, with Germany alone importing over 429,000 tons of green chili in 2024, mostly from Morocco and Türkiye.

Regional favorites and protected varieties—such as Espelette, Padron, Pimentón de la Vera, and Hungarian paprika—feature in both traditional and new-wave cuisines. Growth is fueled by rising interest in ethnic foods and spicy products, while supermarkets and ethnic grocers offer a broad selection of imported peppers, sauces, and condiments.

Exports of specialty and preserved products are growing, especially among Southern and Eastern European producers. The market is dynamic, with shifting consumer tastes and strong links to North African, Turkish, and Asian suppliers.
