China is the world’s largest producer and consumer of chili peppers, with the southwest provinces of Guizhou, Yunnan, and Sichuan, along with northern regions like Shandong and Xinjiang, driving vast production volumes.

China’s chili market in 2025 was valued at over $10 billion, spurred by rising domestic consumption for spice-rich cuisines and thriving exports of chili powder, fresh chili, and processed products. Cultivars such as Guizhou Xiazi chili and Dehong fresh chili serve both local and international markets, with cross-border cold-chain logistics supporting rapid supply to Southeast Asia.

Advanced agricultural technologies, optimized supply chains, and government support have further strengthened the sector. Chinese chili exports exceeded $1.2 billion in 2024, and continued innovation in production and marketing ensures China’s global leadership in the spicy pepper trade.
