Scoville Heat Units (SHU): 500–20,000 SHU
Flavour Profile: Notable for an intense, sharp acidic flavour that is its defining characteristic. Distinct, zesty taste with little sweetness—very unique, described by growers as “very strong acid flavour.” Used fresh, dried, or in sauces for a tangy kick.
Origin: Tehran, Iran; native heirloom from the region, grown locally in gardens and farms.
Species: Capsicum frutescens.
Plant Description:
Growth Habit: Compact, bushy plant; typically reaches 0.8–3ft (0.8m) tall and wide.
Pod Shape: Upright, elongated pods range from 2–6in long (2–15cm), sometimes with a quirky, square-shaped, blunt-nosed end. Pods ripen green to red.
Productivity: Prolific and consistent yields, mid- to late-season type, open-pollinated; can take months to fully ripen. Performs well in containers and can be overwintered indoors in cold climates.
Ornamental Appeal: Attractive upright fruit, compact growth, and dark green leaves.
