Flavour Profile: Bright, citrusy, tangy, and slightly sweet. Delivers a sharp, fast-hitting burn reminiscent of classic Tabasco peppers. Used for sauces, salsas, and fresh eating.
Origin: Origin unclear for Short Yellow—recent specialty variety. Standard Tabasco originated in Mexico and Louisiana, US.
Species: Capsicum Annuum (Short Yellow strain); classic Tabasco is Capsicum frutescens.
Plant Description:
Ultra-compact, bushy growth—reaches only 12in (30cm) tall for Short Yellow.
Upright fruiting habit; pods stand erect and start light green, ripen creamy yellow, then to orange and red if left longer.
Highly prolific and ideal for containers and small gardens. The classic version grows much taller and is bushier (up to 5ft).
