Monster Gum Leopard
Scoville Heat Units (SHU): ,000–200,000 SHU
Flavour Profile: Very hot with a flavourful burn—described as sharp, fruity with a lingering heat. Noted for being more complex and flavourful than some pure superhot types. Suitable for sauces, powders, flakes, and can be dried.
Origin: A modern specialty cross: Monster Gum Peach × Pimenta Leopard, developed by Rocco Maltesi and other breeders. Originally sourced from Belgium and mixed by various hobbyists, seeds and plants tend to show notable instability.
Species: Capsicum Chinense (with possible Annuum or frutescens genetics in background).
Plant Description: Highly variable due to instability—plants are medium (2.5–3ft), compact, with beautiful foliage. Pods range in colour from dark purple/black (immature) to brilliant blaze orange, peach, ivory, or red. Pods are bumpy, 2in long, and can be round or elongated with “dark calyx” collars. High-yield, visually dramatic, with each plant potentially showing different phenotypes. Especially prized as an ornamental and for culinary heat in advanced sauces and powders.
