Capsicum Flexuosum
Scoville Heat Units (SHU): Wide range: 0 to 50,000 SHU depending on strain; some forms hot as cayenne, others mild or heatless.
Flavour Profile: Extremely juicy, sweet, tangy, sometimes tropical (“spicy candy”). Unlike typical chili pods, the fruits are fleshy throughout, not hollow; seeds are black.
Origin: Southern Brazil, wild perennial species.
Species: Capsicum flexuosum.
Plant Description: Hardy to –12°C (10°F); survives 30+ years in the wild. Small white/green/purple flowers, bullet-shaped berries (~7mm) ripen red. Plant can reach 10ft in age, drops leaves in winter and recovers in spring. Useful for cold climates and genetic studies due to bridge-species ability.
