Flavour Profile: Sweet, aromatic, extremely mild; notes of tropical fruit and a touch of smokiness. Used heavily for sofrito and traditional Caribbean sauces—packs rich flavour with almost no heat, despite resemblance to habanero or Scotch Bonnet.
Origin: Indigenous to the Caribbean (especially Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela); also widely grown in Latin America.
Species: Capsicum Chinense.
Plant Description: Bushy plant, 1–2ft tall, prolific; pods 1–2in long, smooth, wrinkled, and squat—ripen green → yellow/orange → red. Classic cap-like shape. Matures in 90–100 days; yields are very high, well-suited to containers or gardens.
