Flavour Profile: Rich, fruity, almost tropical flavour with minimal burn, commonly used in Caribbean and Latin American cooking for aroma without much heat.
Origin: Traditional Cuban/Caribbean “aji cachucha” type, with “Criollo” indicating a local landrace form. Ají cachucha–type peppers are native to northern South America, especially the Brazilian Amazon region, and were carried throughout the Caribbean (Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, etc.) via colonization and migration.
Species: Capsicum Chinense.
Plant Description: Compact plants with small, bonnet‑like pods that ripen from green to bright red or yellow, producing abundant flavourful but gentle peppers.
