Suriname is home to unique chili pepper cultivars like Madame Jeanette (Capsicum chinense), widely grown by smallholders for local markets and regional export. Surinamese farmers have also participated in projects to become pepper seed exporters, and pepper is a central crop in both shifting cultivation systems and greenhouse innovations in Para and inland districts, supporting household income and urban demand.
