Ghana is a major West African producer of chili peppers, widely cultivating local and introduced varieties for both the domestic market and regional trade. Production is most concentrated in the Volta, Ashanti, and Northern regions. Ghanaian chili, especially bird’s eye and scotch bonnet types, are integral to local stews, pepper sauces, and food preservation.

Export volumes fluctuate with rain and disease cycles, but Ghana continues to invest in rural extension, market linkages, and new varieties to increase farmer incomes and boost resilience.
