Capsicum annuum: This is the most diverse species, ranging from blocky bell peppers and sweet frying types to jalapeños, cayennes, and many ornamental chilies. Pods can be small and upright or large and pendulous, in colours from green to red, yellow, purple, and more, with heat ranging from 0 to over 100,000 SHU. It is grown worldwide but is especially common in North America, Europe, and much of Asia as a staple vegetable and spice crop.
